#54 Cocktail: Brandy Alexander

Brandy Alexander is a sweet, brandy-based cocktail consisting of cognac and crème de cacao that became popular during the early 20th century. It is a variation of an earlier, gin-based cocktail called simply an Alexander.
There are many rumors about its origins. It was supposedly created at the time of the wedding of Princess Mary and Viscount Lascelles, in London, in 1922. However, the drama critic and Algonquin Round Table member Alexander Woollcott claimed that it was named after him. Other stories say it was named after the Russian tsar Alexander II.
According to historian Barry Popik, the Brandy Alexander was likely born at Rector’s, New York’s premier pre-Prohibition lobster palace. The bartender there, a certain Troy Alexander, created his eponymous concoction in order to serve a white drink at a dinner celebrating Phoebe Snow.

#20 Cocktail: Angel's Tit

This type of drink is a pousse-cafes drink, a style of after-dinner drink composed of various liqueurs skillfully layered in a narrow, straight cordial glass. Because of their differing weights and densities, the individual layers of ingredients remain distinct. This sweet take on a rainbow cordial is an adventurous cocktail with a blasphemous name.
Known in the 1930's as the Angel's Tip, this drink is sometimes called the Witch's Tit and without the cherry garnish, the King Alphonse

#18 Cocktail: Amaretto Alexander

I have no idea who invented this. I haven't found a history for this cocktail, but is incredibly delicious. With a nutty flavor from the amaretto, the chocolate taste from the creme de cacao and the smoothness from the creme, this cocktail goes in the top 10 of my preferences

1 1/2 ounce Creme de Cacao

#15 Cocktail: Alexander

The mixing of gin, creme de cacao and cream was devised prior to 1917. The mixing might sound strange, but is delicious.

A rehearsal of " Red, Hot and Blue" was in progress. The star of the show, Jimmy Durante, sat on a shaky chair tilted against the bare bricks in the back wall of the stage. He looked as if he were trying to get as far away from the other humans as possible. His face was haggard. When he took his cigar out of his big, ragged mouth his hands shook.
"I can't drink" he said shivering. Only my great sense of responsibility forced me to show up at this pickle works today. I can't drink. It's alright if I take a glass of vermouth or some red wine. Yeh, that's alright. But last night I'm feeling thirsty so I go to the joint across the street and I say to the bartender, "recommend me something". So he gives me what he called an Alexander. I had about six of these Alexanders, and I get dizzy. When I go home I hit the bed and it whirls around like an electric fan. I am sick . I'm in an awful fix. I want to die"
